'Inside APD' news program reaches new milestone – 10,000 Views Recorded

'Inside APD' is now an award-winning news show aimed at connecting residents to the great police work being accomplished by the more than 800 professional men and women of the Arlington Police Department. The weekly video program also reached a new milestone this week with over 10,000 views. The department’s YouTube channel has consistently grown and has now cataloged more than 341,000 views.

'Inside APD' first aired in January 2013 with the initial episode focusing on our homelessness initiatives in Arlington. Since the launch of the program, topics have included teaching our residents how to stay safe and avoid being victimized while also learning more about the various units that make up APD. The Center for Digital Government awarded APD with the 2013 Best of Texas Award for “Most Innovative Use of Social Media” on June 9 in Austin. This makes the second year in a row that the department has won this award category. In 2012, the department was awarded the “Most Innovative Use of Social Media” for our monthly Tweetalong concept that puts citizens in the passenger seat for a virtual ridealong with officers.

Our news programming is crucial in telling our story to the public. Last week’s episode featured a roundtable discussion with Police Chief Will D. Johnson and other community leaders speaking about the recent homicides and officer misconduct case.

APD will continue to push out information through video and use multiple social media formats to enhance the agency’s transparency and remind our citizens that they are part of the team committed to public safety.
