The Arlington Citizens' Police Academy is for citizens of all backgrounds and occupations.* This program is offered as a public service and free of charge. The CPA is a part of our ongoing efforts to develop citizen awareness and public understanding of law enforcement.


This 33-hour training program includes both classroom and "hands-on" instruction. Topics include:

Auto Theft
Defensive Tactics
Accident Investigation
Tactical Demonstration
County Court Offenses
Homicide Investigation
Building Searches
Traffic Stops
Neighborhood Services
Crime Scene
Death Messages

Classes generally meet on Monday nights from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM for 11 weeks followed by a graduation ceremony. To graduate, applicants must attend at least 9 of the 11 classes. Therefore, prior to applying, please determine whether or not you can attend the minimum number of classes for graduation.

Graduates will not be police officers or vigilantes, but will be better-informed citizens in a position to share their experiences with friends and co-workers. Graduates may also join the Arlington Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association (ACPAAA) and continue their involvement with the police department through the association's volunteer activities.

Qualification Requirements

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Successfully pass a complete criminal history check
  • Must attend at least 9 of the 11 classes

*Note that there are Hispanic and Vietnamese Citizens' Police Academies offered as needed.
