Arlington Police today arrested a 28-year-old man who is believed to have been responsible for injuries to a 1-year-old, who was later pronounced deceased. Cameron Phillip Esparza was taken into custody this evening by the Fugitive Unit and is being held in the Arlington City Jail. He faces a felony charge of Injury to a Child and bail is set at $50,000. Esparza's mugshot is attached.
On Friday, August 2, 2013, Arlington police responded to a motel in the 1200 block of Division Street and learned that a child was non-responsive. He was driven by ambulance to Arlington Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The child was later identified as Landynn Lee Rice Fernandez. He had been in the care of his mother’s boyfriend, Cameron Esparza, while his mother was at work.

Child’s suspicious death being investigated
Today at around 12:30 a.m., Arlington police were called about a 1-year-old boy who was unresponsive at a motel in the 1200 block of W. Division Street. Officers and paramedics arrived to find the boy had been taken to the front office of the motel. He was driven by ambulance to Arlington Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Detectives are investigating to determine if foul play was a factor in this child's death. He had suspicious bruising, which is one element being evaluated in the ongoing investigation. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner will determine manner and cause of death, and release the name of the deceased.
