The Arlington Police Department received an emergency call around 8:45 p.m. on Friday, July 5, 2013 in the 600 block of Gemini Court. The reporting citizen, believed to the be the father of the suspect, claimed his son killed a female at a duplex on this street. Responding officers arrived on scene and confirmed that the female was deceased and saw the suspect in an adjacent duplex from where investigators believe the homicide took place. The suspect, identified as Donald Paul Hunting, refused to speak with officers and surrender.
Witnesses at the scene reported that Mr. Hunting might have access to firearms, however the homicide is believed to have occurred during a physical assault earlier in the afternoon. Out of an abundance of caution for area residents, approximately five surrounding duplexes were evacuated. Displaced residents were serviced by the Red Cross. APD attempted to negotiate and make contact with Mr. Hunting through various means over several hours but he refused to surrender to police.
Arlington Police SWAT Team responded to the scene and eventually took Mr. Hunting into custody around 4:00 a.m. where he remains in the Arlington Jail on one count of murder with initial bond set at $150,000. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office will determine the actual cause of death and release the identity of the deceased once next of kin notifications have been made. The relationship between the deceased woman and the suspect is not immediately known.
