The Arlington Police Department is investigating the death of a woman who was apparently struck by a vehicle while walking across the street early this morning. Officers were dispatched to the 600 block of N. Collins Street at about 6:40 a.m. today (Wednesday, August 15, 2012). Multiple drivers called 911 to report that there was a deceased woman in the roadway. The driver of the vehicle that is believed to have struck the woman did not stop at the scene. Officers continue to talk to witnesses to gather information that will hopefully help identify and locate the driver of the original vehicle that struck the victim. Some of the witnesses were drivers who stopped after also hitting the victim in the roadway.
Accident investigators are encouraging anyone who was in the area this morning and might have seen anything suspicious to call police. The victim’s name will be released by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner once an official identification has been made and next of kin have been notified.
This is the 11th traffic fatality in Arlington this year.
